1. Information We Collect

nanome collects minimal information necessary to provide our ultra-portable content service:

  • Content you create (CVs, job ads, events, etc.)
  • Web page content you choose to save via our Chrome extension (article text, titles, URLs, authors, publication dates)
  • URLs you choose to shorten via our Chrome extension or website
  • Basic usage analytics to improve our service
  • IP addresses for security and performance optimization
  • Browser information for compatibility purposes
  • Authentication tokens (stored locally in Chrome extension storage, only if you choose to log in)

Chrome Extension Specific: When you use the nanome Chrome extension, we collect:

  • Content extracted from web pages you visit (only when you explicitly choose to save it)
  • URLs of pages you choose to shorten or save
  • Article metadata (title, author, publication date) when available
  • Authentication tokens stored locally in your browser (Chrome sync storage) if you choose to log in

Important: The extension only accesses content from web pages when you explicitly click the extension button and choose to save or shorten a URL. We do not automatically collect or monitor your browsing activity. All data collection requires your explicit action.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information solely to:

  • Generate and serve your content via shareable links
  • Create short URLs for web pages you choose to save
  • Store and serve reader view content extracted from web pages
  • Provide QR codes for offline sharing
  • Associate saved content with your account (if you choose to log in)
  • Provide analytics and tracking for your saved URLs (if logged in)
  • Improve our service performance and user experience
  • Ensure security and prevent abuse

Chrome Extension: Content extracted from web pages is processed to create clean, readable versions and is stored on our servers only when you explicitly choose to save it. We do not process or store content from pages you visit unless you actively use the extension to save them.

3. Data Storage and Security

Your content is stored securely using industry-standard encryption and is distributed globally via Cloudflare's edge network for optimal performance. We implement:

  • End-to-end encryption for all content
  • Secure data transmission (HTTPS)
  • Regular security audits and updates
  • Minimal data retention policies

4. Content Expiration

nanome content may have expiration dates set by users. When content expires:

  • Links become inaccessible
  • Data is automatically deleted from our servers
  • QR codes stop working
  • No recovery is possible after expiration

5. Third-Party Services

We use trusted third-party services:

  • Cloudflare: Content delivery and security
  • Next.js/Vercel: Application hosting
  • Supabase: Authentication and database services (for logged-in users)
  • Analytics: Anonymous usage statistics

Chrome Extension: The extension uses Mozilla Readability.js (open-source library) to extract readable content from web pages. This processing happens locally in your browser before any data is sent to our servers.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your content at any time
  • Delete your content and associated data
  • Modify or update your content
  • Export your data in standard formats
  • Withdraw consent for data processing

7. Cookies and Tracking

nanome uses minimal cookies for:

  • Session management
  • Performance optimization
  • Security purposes

Chrome Extension: The extension uses Chrome's built-in storage API (chrome.storage.sync) to store your authentication token locally if you choose to log in. This data is stored in your browser and synced across your Chrome instances if you have sync enabled. We do not access this storage except to authenticate API requests you make through the extension.

We do not use tracking cookies or sell user data to third parties. The extension does not track your browsing behavior or collect data from pages you visit unless you explicitly use the extension to save content.

8. Chrome Extension Permissions

The nanome Chrome extension requires the following permissions:

  • activeTab: Allows the extension to access the current tab's content only when you click the extension icon. This is used to extract article content and get the current page URL.
  • storage: Used to store your authentication token locally (if you choose to log in) and remember your email address preference. Data is stored in Chrome's sync storage.
  • scripting: Allows the extension to inject content scripts into web pages to extract readable content. Scripts only run when you explicitly use the extension.
  • Host permissions (nanome.org, Supabase): Required to communicate with our API servers to create short URLs and save content.

Important: The extension does not run automatically or in the background. It only activates when you click the extension icon and choose to save or shorten content. We do not monitor your browsing activity or collect data without your explicit action.

9. Children's Privacy

nanome is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us immediately.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
